Malisse advances, Tipsarevic upset in Atlanta

07/20/2010 - Atlanta, GA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Seventh-seeded Xavier Malisse was a straight- set winner, while fifth-seeded Janko Tipsarevic was an upset victim in Tuesday's first-round action at the Atlanta Tennis Championships.

The Belgian Malisse defeated American qualifier Ryan Sweenting 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 to set up a match with Illya Marchenko, who had already advanced in Monday's action.

Meanwhile, Kevin Anderson upended Tipsarevic 6-3, 7-5, to set up a second- round matchup with young American wild card Donald Young, who was a 7-5, 6-0 winner over Israeli Dudi Sela.

In Tuesday's other action, Taylor Dent beat James Blake, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in a battle of Americans, and another American, Robby Ginepri, advanced with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 victory over qualifier Nick Lindahl.

Additionally, qualifier Gilles Muller moved on with a 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4) win over Poland native Michal Przysiezny, and Lukas Lacko came back to secure a 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-4) win over Igor Kunitsyn.

The tournament winner will receive $91,800.
